Codan NGT Series HF Transceivers

Codan Codan NGT Transceiver Codan offer base and mobile HF communcations equipment suitable for a wide range of uses. The Codan NGT has gained a reputation as the leading HF system in the world and is the choice of large corporations and AID agencies world wide. The low power consumption, ease of use, and low failure rate make the Codan NGT an ideal HF communication solution for PNG.

Pacom offer the Codan series of transceivers in 3 main formats. The Codan NGT AR Voice, the Codan NGT AR, and the both formats in mobile configurations for vehicle mounting. All forms come with Codan's 'Easytalk' which provides eceptional noise reduction and enhances further the quality of the Codan system.

Codan NGT Transceiver The Codan NGT AR Voice is the most popular as sold by Pacom. Whilst this model does not allow upgrading to data or fax/data capability, it suits the general HF user. With 400 channels 100 Watts of power and Selcall, the NGT AR Voice offers the standard user with all the features they could require. Mobile versions of both formats may be offered with Codan's highly respected automatic tuning antenna system or may be equipped with a more simple taped whip antenna system. For base installation requirements Pacom recommend the Moonraker range of specialist HF antennae. The Moonraker EF2-30 broadband inverted V antenna being particularly suited to PNG for range and performance.

NGT Features

Codan’s HF voice networks provide a range of features:
  • Easitalk:
Codan offers an innovative function using Digital Signal Processing techniques. These processes modify received audio signals to minimize the effect of interference and reduce noise.
  • Innovative Interface:
The NGT handset provides all programming and procedures in a convenient and consistent manner. It has a familiar style of user interface for casual HF users, more efficient operation and easier network management. The NGT puts the control in the hands of the user.
  • Voice mute:
  • This facility mutes the radio until it hears speech on any of the channels that are being scanned.
  • Selective calling:
A selcall number is like a phone number. This means that rather than disrupting all users, you can selcall a specific station. When a call is received on a channel that is being scanned, the radio rings like a telephone. This removes the need for an operator to continuously monitor each channel. The radio can be programmed to scan several channels at any one time. If the radio is unattended when it receives a selcall, the number of the calling party is stored in the radio for later review.
  • Selcall mute:
  • This keeps the radio muted until a selcall is received on one of the scanned channels. This means that the mute will only open if the radio receives a selcall.
  • Talk power:
The talk power capability of Codan transceivers enables them to deliver an exceptionally high quality of voice communications.
  • Beacon call:
Using a beacon call before sending a selcall establishes whether or not the chosen channel is going to give you good communications. The beacon call you send instructs the called station to transmit four beeps. The quality of the received beeps indicates the quality of the selected channel.
  • Codan Automated Link Management (CALM):
CALM optimises system performance by removing the need for the operator to select the best channel. CALM develops a profile of channel characteristics over time that enables it to select a suitable channel at any time of day, even if the unit has only recently been switched on.
  • Self–Managing Network (equipment fitted with CALM):
Automatically exchanges critical information about themselves to allow each station to optimise the channel selection. A new station can be added to a network without requiring the attention of a network manager.
  • Emergency selcall:
24–hour safety monitoring is a fact of life for many organizations operating in remote or hostile environments. Emergency selcall is available on all Codan radios. When activated, the radio can send a distress signal to pre–programmed channels automatically. All receiving stations are capable of decoding incoming emergency calls. If a GPS receiver is used in conjunction with a mobile transceiver, the position information (latitude and longitude) is also transmitted with the emergency call signal. This facility can be linked to an external alarm for out of hours operation.
