Radio Licensing in PNG

Licensing of Radio Communications products in PNG is controlled by PANGTEL (PNG Telecommunications Authority). Pacom Communications as a Licensed Dealer operates under the requirements of the Radio Spectrum Act of 1996 and the Radio Spectrum Act of 1997 as published and effective from 1st January 1997.

Under these Acts PANGTEL has the exclusive right to issue licenses for the use of a radio frequency and for providing a radio communications service. Pacom Communications operates under a duly issued and paid up Radio Dealers License and as such is authorized to deal in or let or hire or loan, or to demonstrate, apparatus, or to repair or adjust or to manufacture apparatus.

Pacom as part of its operations ensures that all apparatus sold by Pacom is of a type approved by PANGTEL for operation in PNG. Additionally, Pacom at the time of your purchase shall ensure that equipment license application is made on your behalf to PANGTEL.

Radio Licenses

When purchasing your goods Pacom shall add the cost of the appropriate license and submit the application on your behalf to PANGTEL. PANGTEL shall subsequently issue a duly authorised license to the postal address stated. The license is applicable for a period of 12 months after which time PANGTEL shall issue a statement/invoice and request payment for an additional 12 month period.

Licenses are NOT transferable. Owners wishing to sell their equipment are recommended to utilise an agent such as Pacom to effect the sale and as such ensure that the new owner is appropriately licensed. It is the responsibility of the seller to ensure that they contact PANGTEL by letter informing them of the sale and the desire to cancel their licenses.

Failure to maintain a license can result in PANGTEL confiscating the equipment.

Replacement radios When replacing a stolen, lost, or damaged radio please inform Pacom so that a new license is not processed. The replacement equipment operates under the original license. Note that a license for VHF equipment can not be transferred to UHF equipment.
